When building a skincare routine with sensitive skin, avoid harsh ingredients such as perfumes, alcohol, and sulfates that can remove essential moisture and cause irritation.

Testing a small patch on the arm or neck is also advisable before applying any new product. If, after 24 hours, you can apply with confidence if there is no sign of redness or discomfort.

Best Skin Care Routine for Sensitive Skin

Whether you have a five or nine-step routine, one thing anyone can do to improve their skincare is to apply the product in the right order.

No matter what your skin problems are, you'll want to start with a clean, toned base, then apply concentrated, active ingredients, and seal in moisture - and, of course, SPF during the day. Here are some tips for good skin care:

1. Wash Your Face

Wash your face in the morning and at night. Wash your face with water and put a small amount of mild cleanser between clean palms.

Massage the face wash all over the face using light pressure. Rinse your hands in water and massage your face until you remove the cleanser and grime.

Gently pat your face with a soft towel. If you did makeup, you need to clean it twice a night. First, remove your makeup with cleansing oil.

You can try leaving a dedicated eye makeup remover on for a few minutes to remove makeup more easily and avoid rubbing your eyes. Follow with a gentle facial cleanser.

2. Apply Toner

If you use toner, apply it after cleansing your face and everything else. Put some drops of toner in your palms or cotton pads and gently wipe your face.

Use only at night if your toner is exfoliating, i.e. it removes dead skin cells with ingredients like glycolic acid. Hydrating formulas can use twice a day. Do not use an exfoliating toner, retinoids, or other exfoliators simultaneously.

3. Apply Serum

Morning time is the best time to use a serum with antioxidants such as a vitamin C-polishing serum - because it protects your skin from the free radicals you'll be exposed to throughout the day.

benefits of hyaluronic acid serum

Night time is a good time to use a moisturizing serum with hyaluronic acid, which prevents your skin from drying out at night, especially if you use an anti-aging or acne treatment that itches the skin.

Serum may also contain exfoliants such as alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) or lactic acid. Whatever you are using, always remember: water-based serum should go under the moisturizer. An oil-based serum should apply after the moisturizer.

4. Apply Eye Cream

You can apply moisturizer regularly under your eyes. Still, if you decide to use a specific eye cream, you will usually want to keep it under the moisturizer, as eye creams are thinner than facial moisturizers.

Try using eye cream with a metal roller hair applicator and keep it in the fridge to combat swelling in the morning. A hydrating eye cream can cause fluid retention, which can cause swollen eyes in the morning.

5. Use Spot Treatment

When your skin is going rough and dull, it is a good idea to use acne spot treatment at night. Be careful not to coat acne-fighting ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid with retinol, which can irritate. Instead, ensure you do your best to keep your skin calm and hydrated.

6. Moisturizer

The moisturizer hydrates the skin and all the other layers of product you have applied. Find a mild lotion for the morning, ideally with SPF 30 or higher. You can use a thick night cream in the evening. People with dry skin want to use the cream at night and in the morning.

7. Apply Retinoid

Retinoids (vitamin A derivatives, including retinol) can reduce dark spots, breakouts, and fine lines by increasing the turnover of skin cells. Still, they can also be irritating, especially for sensitive skin.

If you use retinoids, know that they break down in the sun, so they should only use at night. They also make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so sunscreen is a must.

8. Apply Oil On The Face

If you use facial oil, be sure to apply it after other skin care products, as nothing else will be able to penetrate the oil.

9. Apply Sunscreen

It may be the last step, but almost any dermatologist will tell you that sun protection is the most important part of any skincare procedure. Protecting your skin from UV rays can prevent signs of aging and skin cancer.

If your moisturizer does not have SPF, you must wear sunscreen. For chemical sunscreen, you should wait 20 minutes before going outside for the sunscreen to be effective. you can even try to use new electrical products that make your skin looks fresh and healthy.

What Causes Sensitive Skin?

Wonder 'why is my skin so sensitive'? Three main factors can trigger skin sensitivity:

  1. Environment and products:
  2. Skin damage:
  3. Aging:

1. Environment and products:

Skin sensitivity may be genetic but is often caused by environmental stress (air, sun, heat, cold, and pollution) and skin care products (harsh soaps, soaps, fragrances, and dyes).

2. Skin damage:

Sensitivity can also cause by an unbalance microbiome (friendly and less friendly bacteria that live on the skin surface) or a poor skin barrier.

3. Aging:

With age, the skin becomes sensitive as it becomes dry and more vulnerable to external aggression.

Conclusion

Although everyone can experience skin allergies, people who struggle with sensitive skin are particularly prone to inflammation, redness, and irritation because it reacts more than normal skin. A simple but gentle skincare routine for sensitive skin can help reduce irritation.
